Workshop on Cyber Security Assessment of Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Systems
The CPS lab, in collaboration with the National Centre for Cyber Security (NCCS), and Directorate of Cyber security, PAEC organized a one-week workshop on “Cyber Security Assessment of Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Systems” from October 3 to 7, 2022. The workshop and CEPS laboratory was inaugurated by DG PINSTECH, Dr. Qamar ul Haq. It gathered 14 industry practitioners from different PAEC organizations.
Director General National Centre for Physics, Prof. Dr. Mansoor Hameed Inayat was the Chief guest of the closing ceremony. Rector, PIEAS Dr. Nasir Majid Mirza, Dean Sciences, Dr. Anila Usman, and Director Cyber Security Directorate Dr. Asmatullah was also present on the occasion. The resource person, Dr. Ghulam Mustafa, briefed the audience about the workshop. He highlighted that the workshop allowed the participants to gather core knowledge on the cyber security risk assessment of I&C systems, including the risk assessment methodology, risk assessment process, risk modeling, and analysis techniques. A key feature of the workshop was hands-on activities about the cyber security risk assessments of I&C testbeds available in the CPS lab. He also paid homage to the chief guest and thanked for his role in development of CPS lab during his tenure as Pro-Rector PIEAS. The participants also shared their experiences about the workshop. Dr. Asmatullah briefed the audience about the initiatives and activities of the PAEC cyber security directorate to train human resource in this specialized field.
Addressing to the participants, the Chief guest emphasized the need for aggressive capacity building measures in the field of cyber security of industrial control systems. He appreciated the role played by PIEAS in establishing expertise in this area, which is of utmost importance in national strategic sector. He also provided guidelines to broaden the impact and scope of such trainings to both public and private sector industry. Afterwards, the chief guest distributed certificates among the participants. Rector PIEAS, Dr. Nasir Majid Mirza presented a gift to the chief guest.
The next session in the series of workshops is planned in December 2022.
